What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a natural, safe, drug-free approach to getting well and staying healthy.
Acupuncture is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, used to balance the energy of the meridians and restore harmony to organ systems and has been around for the past 2000 years. Meridians are specific pathways that run superficially and deep in the body and where Qi (the intelligent energy) is regulated. These meridians conduct life-force energy, Qi (chee), in and around all the parts of your body. Blockage or interference in these meridian pathways can result in energetic imbalances that may contribute to negative health conditions. The primary goal of acupuncture is to restore the proper energy flow and balance to these meridians, allowing your body to function normally and return to good health naturally.
The stress of every day life affects the meridians and organ systems, interfering in the flow of Qi. Over time, the body becomes unbalanced and its ability to self heal is compromised. The body becomes weakened and susceptible to stress, pain, anxiety, disease and poor health. The filiform needle is most commonly used in clinical practice today. The thin, sterile, flexible disposable needles are inserted at specific acupuncture points located throughout the body to aid in the free flow of Qi. Once the needle is inserted, patients may feel a mild tingling or a full sensation, along with an enhanced sense of well-being. These are all normal reactions.
“Qi is the root of a human being. It is the basis of all phenomena in the universe.” – Giovanni Maciocia, The Foundations of Chinese Medicine
“To live is to have Qi in every part of your body; to die is to be a body without Qi. For in order to be healthy the proper balance of Qi must be obtained; neither too much, nor too little.” – Classic text, Nan-Ching, 5th Century B.C.
What is AcuGraph?
The AcuGraph Digital Meridian Imaging system is a computerized tool used to analyze and document the energetic status of the acupuncture meridians. The AcuGraph system allows Dr. Levering to measure and analyze the energy balance of each acupuncture meridian. With this information, Dr. Levering can make better informed decisions about the conditions, and provide the best treatment possible.
In an ancient acupuncture classic says: “The superior physician treats that which is not yet ill. The inferior physician treats that which is already ill.”
